Lessons from NYFW

Lessons from NYFW

At Rebellations there are many things that encourage us to identify with our iconic neighbor to the East.  For one, you can see Lower Manhattan from our windows.  Second, many of us head monthly to the Arrojo Studio for continuing instruction from Nick and his education staff.  But most importantly, many of our awesome clients live or work in New York.  They wouldn’t be receiving our highest level of service if we remained unaware of the latest looks they might be seeing on Gotham’s stylish streets.  In the following post, we’ll drill down on the top cues we took from New York Fashion Week, and its foreshadowing on the important looks for this spring and summer.

The “harsh” or “abrupt” ombre may be working its way towards been-there-seen-that.  But that didn’t stop the soft ombre – dubbed the “sombre” by celebrity stylist Kim Vo — from stealing the show at Fashion Week.  By now everyone agrees that ombre highlights have become way too important to disappear anytime soon.  But if Fashion Week was any indication, this year Rebellations’ stylists expect to place greater emphasis on more-natural hues, longer transition zones, and more-subtle color contrasts.

As for the “It” color shade, at NYFW it was all about the bronze.  Bronze tones not only prevailed in makeup, nails and accessories; runway hairstylists rocked it as well.  Articulated as hair color, the bronze look translates into what can best be described as luminous caramel.  With Ciara, Kim Kardashian and Naya Rivera already sporting it, Rebellations’ stylists expect more of our clients to be asking us to land their color on this new sweet-spot between dirty-blonde and golden-brown.
